ADMISSION PROCESS

Brandy Cressy

Students who are planning on obtaining an Associate or Bachelor’s degree must complete the Admissions Application Procedure. Your application will be reviewed when we have received all of the required components (link to application).

Completed applications will be reviewed promptly, with strongest consideration given to portfolio and essay. Although we will respect your portfolio, Heartwood cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss. We will return portfolios shortly after review dates, provided we have received proper return postage and address labels.

Accepted students are asked to respond to Heartwood by May. Those who have chosen to become Heartwood students should include a non-refundable enrollment deposit with their responses. This deposit will be applied to the student’s charges for their first semester in attendance.

Application Reviews

The Admissions Committee reviews complete applications every two weeks and maintains a rolling admissions policy. Portfolios will be returned shortly after the review. Letters regarding acceptance will be mailed at the same time the portfolio is returned. Personal interviews are strongly encouraged.

Non-Matriculated Students

A potential student or community member may enroll in HCA classes for credit or audit as a non-matriculated student. Up to 18 credit hours may be taken in non-matriculated status. Upon completion of 18 credits, a non-matriculated student must apply for formal admission as an enrolled student in a certificate or degree program. All courses offered in a certificate program are fully transferable to HCA’s Associate and Bachelor degree programs.

Certificate Programs

Certificate programs in Design & Crafts, Fine Arts, and Photography are offered for students who do not wish to pursue a full degree program. Each program consists of 30 credits in a prescribed course of study. All courses offered in a Certificate Program are fully transferable to HCA’s Associate and Bachelor’s Degree programs.

Further information on Certificate Programs can be found under Academic Programs.

Transfer Students

Heartwood accepts credits from colleges offering similar courses of study. Credits will be awarded from an official transcript through evaluation of course descriptions and a grade of 3.0 or better.

Military Veterans

Heartwood College of Art is approved by the Veterans' Administration for veterans seeking to continue their education and receive VA benefits.

International Students

Unfortunately, HCA is not able to admit international students at this time.
